Guitar Therapy

When you play, the hurt goes away

In 2005, with the assistance of the Reguin 2 Arts Council, I built a prototype of the Adaptive Modular Electric Guitar. It was then donated to the VA Twin Cities Hospital. This first edition was particularly successful in the service to persons with lower body trauma. Other designs and applications are pending.

The Adaptive MEG will be demonstrated at the American Music Therapy Association regional meeting in May, 2010. Dates, times and locations will be announced here.

Guitar Shop Tips

SET-UPS are probably the most common duties of the guitar repair shop. New guitars are rarely sent with comfortable playing action--they can all use a little TLC to get to their optimum playability. Several factors help define a guitar‚s playability: width, thickness and shape of the neck and fingerboard; height of strings; the amount of relief, or negative curve, in the neck; string gauge; nut adjustment and surface tension or drag of the neck finish and strings.
